I went Keto

So, for the past TWO WHOLE YEARS, I’ve been living that keto life. Yeah, you heard that right – a teenager who ditch boba tea, pizza and fries for steak and eggs. Wild, right?

Keto is all about tricking your body into burning fat instead of carbs. I’m sharing what I learned about keto:

1. Carbs? Keep ’em Under 20g 🙅‍♂️

The foundation of the keto diet is keeping your carbohydrate intake extremely low—typically under 20 grams per day. This restriction forces your body to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose, which is derived from carbs. Seriously, that’s like one slice of bread. I swapped pasta for steak and felt AMAZING. (although it was tough initially)

2. Eat When You’re Actually Hungry 🍽️

Unlike traditional diets that emphasize structured meal times, the keto lifestyle encourages intuitive eating. This was huge for me. No more constant snacking or feeling hangry 24/7. By consuming high-fat meals that keep you satiated longer, you can listen to your body and eat only when hunger strikes.

3. Meat is Your New BFF 🥩

Meat plays a central role in the keto diet as it is rich in protein and healthy fats while being naturally low in carbohydrates. Protein helps maintain muscle mass and keeps you feeling full longer. Steak, chicken, fish – I ate it all. Kept me full for hours!

4. Eat till you are Full (With the Right Foods) 🍗

One of the most liberating aspects of keto is that you don’t have to count calories obsessively or restrict portions. I could eat until I was full without counting calories. Game changer!

5. Animal Fat is King 👑

Animal fats are crucial in the keto diet because they provide the energy your body needs while keeping carbs low. These fats are also more stable for cooking compared to many plant-based oils, making them ideal for preparing meals. Butter, avocados, fatty meats – bring it on.

6. Sneak in Those Greens 🥬

While meat and fat dominate the keto diet, vegetables are equally important for their fiber content and essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals. Gotta balance it out with some low-carb veggies.

Keto taught me SO MUCH about nutrition and how food affects me. This year, I decided to ease off strict keto. Now, I’m all about balance. I still keep my carbs pretty low, but I’m not stressed if I want to grab pizza with my friends sometimes. It’s all about that long game.
